Our AMUSF Accredited Courses
We are proud to be Scotland’s only Approved Training Centre for the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF). Our accredited courses are designed to give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to launch a career as a professional upholsterer.
Structured over three stages, each year combines practical training, written research projects, and assessment pieces to build your expertise step by step. With no prior experience needed to start, you can begin your journey into a skilled and rewarding craft.
AMUSF ACCREDITED UPHOLSTERY COURSES
LEVEL 1 – Foundation Certificate
- Duration: 210 hours (one day per week across 3 x 10-week blocks)
- Exam pieces: Traditional sprung dining chair, upholstered and lined box, written research project
- Learn traditional and modern upholstery methods
- Perfect for beginners or those looking to formalise existing skills

Level 2 – Intermediate Certificate
- Duration: 210 hours (as above)
- Exam pieces: Traditional armless chair, modern post-1950s armchair, written project
- Gain confidence and expand your skills in both modern and traditional upholstery
- Includes business planning for those wishing to start their own venture

LEVLE 3 – Diploma
- Duration: 210 hours (as above)
- Exam pieces: Traditional armchair, modern chair with concave inside back, written project
- Develop independence, tackle larger and more complex projects, and enhance sewing skills
- Culmination of stages 1 and 2, preparing you for a career as a professional upholsterer

AMUSF ACCREDITED SOFT FURNISHING COURSE
AMUSF Soft Furnishing Course
- Duration: 210 hours (one day per week across 30 teaching weeks)
- Exam pieces: One pair full length interlined curtains, roman blind, scatter cushion, bolster cushion, box cushion, portfolio of work
- Learn essential soft furnishing skills
- Perfect for beginners or those looking to formalise existing skills
